The cover (which I love) asks the question 'Can you lose your soul and regain it?' It's set during the Civil War era and is my first historical, and has been a long time coming-since 2013 believe it or not! Happy to share its genesis with you if you drop me a line.

I have a number of advance readers who have already given me great feedback on the book. Several strong themes run through the story. While not about war, Fireflies touches on pacifism, the ills of slavery, and the fury and futility of war. All of that blends with a thread of romance that winds throughout and how ultimately all of these influences help mold the characters over the years. It's a good story, if I do say so myself.

The research for Fireflies was also particularly interesting as I learned lots more about mid-19th century America. I did in-person research on Andersonville prison in Georgia, the Underground Railroad, pacifism, and the War itself. My daughter Lisa also uncovered information about the greatest maritime disaster in our history. Still. I also included information on the quilts Quaker wives made to guide runaways to safety in the North. There's lots of period history in Fireflies but the well-developed characters still carry the story.
